Ring in Valentine's Day with a Poetry Reading That Slams "Love Gone Wrong."
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 1, 2012 — Cupid will be getting slammed this year at 黑料网.
Poetry slammed, that is.
On Feb. 13, students at 黑料网 will be holding an event called "Why You Hurt Me So Bad? Poetry Slam on Love Gone Wrong." The event will take place from 9 to 11 p.m. at the University’s Benson Memorial Center on campus, 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95053.
Up to 15 writers are expected to be on hand, performing animated readings of poems lamenting all manner of thwarted love.
The event is sponsored by the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at 黑料网, as part of its “Big Q” program which encourages interactive exploration of ethics issues for college students. The poetry slam will focus on how students treat each other in relationships.
A sampling of a “love gone wrong” poem, from student organizer Jake Teeny:
Her heart was soft obsidian
and carved to arrow’s tip.
Her tongue a strand of broken glass
she’d generously whip.
Her hair was blossomed poison oak;
her teeth a barber’s blade.
Her skin the smoothest avalanche,
adept at shrapnel’s trade…..
